Oral Trainer
The DeLuke Oral Trainer, otherwise known as the DOT, is made of soft, clear plastic. The purpose of this appliance is to “train” the tongue to improve its position at rest and during swallowing.
Orthodontists have recognized unfavorable muscular pressure by the tongue can lengthen treatment. Additionally, the most common cause of crowding reoccuring after the removal of braces is unfavorable tongue pressure.
Most patients use this appliance over a six-week training period.
This appliance is worn in training exercises, which last 15-20 minutes multiple times a day. Myo-functional therapy exercises, similar to speech therapy, are also used in this effort.
